Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is a member based, nonprofit community development corporation working for the redevelopment of communities on the northwest side of Chicago by and for the low and moderate-income people who live in these areas

What they do

Housing Development: To date Bickerdike’s Housing Development program has created 1,006 quality affordable units. In addition to moving forward a number of exciting and innovative housing developments such as the Harold Washington Unity Coop and La Estancia, Bickerdike also serves as a Housing Resource Center, administers a Housing Minor Repair Program, and partners with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) on the New Communities Program, a comprehensive community planning and development initiative in Humboldt Park.

Property Management: Through its Property Management program Bickerdike is responsible for the maintenance and management of 861 affordable rental and co-op units, housing over 2,400 residents. Bickderdike’s resident involved property management specializes in ensuring quality affordable housing for residents and in the long term preservation of our all of our units.

Economic Development: Through its Economic Development programs Bickerdike has helped with training and placement of more than 75 local residents in skilled trade union jobs, and developed a community fresh foods market, employing more than 30 area residents and providing quality, culturally relevant produce and groceries to the community.

Leadership Development and Organizing: Bickerdike’s Leadership Development and Organizing program has cultivated countless low and moderate-income community leaders. The program administers a diverse and active committee structure that includes the Residents Council, Garden Committee, Newsletter Committee, Welcoming Committee, Youth Council, Affordable Housing Committee and Public Safety Initiative. Committees work on a variety of issues from community beutification to property tax reform and affordable housing set asides.
